Earlier this month, Hog Roast Shipley received the golden ticket: an invitation to cater Jeff Fest – arguably the most exclusive (and delicious) festival Yorkshire has ever seen! Organised by the wonderfully creative Rob Jeffrey in celebration of his big 4-0, this one-day extravaganza had all the energy of Glastonbury, with the added bonus of roast pork. And with 130 hungry partygoers on the guest list, we knew we had a very tasty mission ahead of us.
Bright and early on a sun-drenched Saturday, our team arrived at Idle Cricket Club – home of Prospect AFC – and wasted no time getting into festival mode. The hog roast was fired up, the gazebo was pitched, and the unmistakable aroma of crackling, herbs, and applesauce soon drifted across the grounds, setting the perfect tone for what was to come.
By the time afternoon rolled around, the hog was glistening and golden, its skin crisped to perfection. As guests began to arrive – festival-ready and full of birthday cheer – they were greeted not only by the soundtrack of celebration but also by the irresistible scent of slow-roasted pork. It didn’t take long for the queues to form.
Hog Roast Shipley moved with balletic precision, carving generous hunks of pork straight off the spit. Each portion was nestled into fluffy gluten-free or hearty wholemeal buns, layered with tangy apple sauce, herby stuffing, and a sprinkle of pork scratchings for that extra crunch. Alongside, guests helped themselves to vibrant, homemade coleslaw; golden herby roast potatoes; and a kaleidoscope of fresh salads that even the most devoted carnivore couldn’t resist.
The smiles were contagious, the plates were full (and then empty… and then full again!), and the vibes? Off the charts. Rob, the birthday star himself, was absolutely thrilled. Seeing his vision come to life – and being able to relax knowing everyone was well-fed – made the day even more special for him.
