When it comes to birthday parties, what is there not to love? Firstly, you get to spend some quality time with family and friends and celebrate the beginning of the next chapter of your life with some tasty food (you can’t forget about the food, we’d argue that it’s the most important part). And, on top of all that, it’s the one and only day of the year where it’s all about you!
Even those who don’t ordinarily like to be fussed over can’t deny that it feels great to be the centre of attention for a day, and with that in mind, Michael got in touch with us recently with the aim of organising a surprise bash for his wife’s birthday.
After discussing the details of the party with our catering manager, Jon, the client placed a booking for our Menu 3, which matched the needs of his 40 guests perfectly! Famous for being one of Hog Roast Howden’s most popular menus, this lip-smacking feast incorporates a succulent slow-roasted pig with crisp and salty crackling, sage and onion stuffing and our sensational homemade applesauce with a choice of sides and a meat-free option to entice the taste buds of veggie and vegan guests.
Michael had organised for us to serve this sumptuous spread at 3 pm on the 1st day of the month at his private home in Gateforth. And, with the birthday girl none the wiser as to her husband’s plans, she agreed to take an afternoon stroll with him and the dogs whilst Hog Roast Howden’s caterers worked their socks off to get everything ready before the couple’s return.
Using the HogMaster, Jon expertly cooked the pork until the meat was soft and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. At Michael’s request, he and the team also prepared grilled veggie kebabs and sweet potato and traditional fries and colourful side salads to accompany the meal.
By the time Michael and his wife returned from their outing, all of the guests had arrived to greet them! The birthday girl was stunned but incredibly grateful for the effort that Michael had gone to for her big day and after regaining her voice, she happily accepted a plateful of scrumptious food from Hog Roast Howden!
