A Little Rain Can’t Stop Hog Roast Arkendale From Doing What We Do Best

Just as we were finally beginning to get used to BBQs and garden parties again, in true British fashion, the rain came along to spoil our plans, taking with it any recognition of the glorious heatwave from the final days of June. Just typical, eh? But if there’s one thing you should know about the Hog Roast Arkendale team, it’s that we’re a determined bunch. So, we certainly weren’t going to let the sudden torrential downpour, booming thunderstorms or the dark grey clouds that loomed eerily over the country stop us from cooking up our sumptuous spit roasts earlier this month. No way!

And one client who appreciated our never-give-in attitude was Sinead, who had asked us to serve our Classic Hog Roast menu at a small charity fundraiser she had arranged. Only she didn’t know when she booked in the height of the sunshine that the weather would change so drastically ahead of her event…

On the day of the party, the rain was coming down in sheets. But instead of backing down and admitting defeat, the Hog Roast Arkendale crew rolled up their sleeves and set to work pitching the catering gazebo and dining marquee into the sodden earth in Sinead’s back garden. After which, they covered the insides with interlocking rubber mats to stop the guests’ feet from getting wet before getting started on the food.

Hog Roast ArkendaleSinead had chosen to stick with something simple on this occasion, and our classic roast was just the ticket. Offering a flavoursome whole-roasted pig, coated in a crisp layer of crackling and served with sage and onion stuffing, applesauce, bread rolls, side salads and a potato dish, this traditional take was ideal for the laid-back get-together that Sinead had in mind when she booked with us.

Though it was hammering down outside, the air was warm and humid, so having three of the four marquee sides open wasn’t a problem for Sinead or her guests. In fact, everyone seemed to have a wonderful time, regardless of the weather; lots of money was raised, and the Hog Roast Arkendale spread was a big hit with everyone too!
